A warm welcome in elegant surroundings with gorgeous views over Rothesay.
This was our second visit to Tina and Tom’s beautiful Georgian villa, perched above Rothesay and surrounded by delightful mature gardens. We had such a lovely time last year when we visited for September weekend so it was our first choice for this year. Tina and Tom are the perfect hosts: warm, friendly and attentive. We remember that last year Tina gave us some great pointers for places to eat and things to do and this year she has welcomed us back with her inimitable charm and asked about our plans and given additional helpful suggestions. We loved the rooms at the top of the house with Velux windows offering unparalleled views over Rothesay where you can watch the comings and goings of the CalMac ferries and the townsfolk or admire the coastline and hills beyond. We stayed in room five which has a double bed and beautiful modern bathroom with an adjoining twin room for our son. Other rooms have the grand Georgian windows and higher ceilings, but we particularly enjoy this family space all set in the uppermost part of the house, just under the slate roof, glancing out over Rothesay at our feet. Our room is equipped with tv and tea/coffee making facilities, free WiFi, hairdryer, straighteners, ample storage in drawers. There are several options for lighting, whether in the day with plentiful natural light or at night with ceiling spots and/or lamps making reading a delight, and numerous sockets for charging phones and other devices. The bathroom has a wonderful, fast-filling bath and powerful shower, sparkling clean sink and loo with modern fittings,a generous range of complimentary toiletries and a pleasant view over the garden with efficient blinds for privacy. Breakfast is copious and is enjoyed in the dining room overlooking the bay. Cereal, yogurt and fruit juice, tea, coffee and a full Scottish cooked breakfast are all on offer. You just need to select your choice of cooked items the night before. The house is accessed via a lovely crunchy gravel driveway or on foot via the winding path and steps through the garden which lead up from the town just up the hill from a very convenient Co op store. It’s like stepping back in time to a more genteel age of horticultural appreciation with a babbling stream and mature planting which are so fitting for the beautiful style of the house. It’s lovely here. Peaceful and relaxing and so well situated for exploring the island and all it has to offer.
